Fatkin was appointed to design a new side and rear extension and the conversion of the roof space to provide additional space to the family home and to create a separate, self-contained one bed flat.

The reconfiguration of the internal layout was required to create the two separate properties; a one-bed two person flat and a four-bed eight person maisonette created over three floors. Both properties have their own entrances from the street and separate outdoor space.

The project provides an exemplar for the densification of existing post-war housing stock to increase housing numbers without negatively impacting on the living space available to each household. It received support from the local planning authority with consent granted promptly.
