As part of a strategy to expand the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, a new build facility is proposed to provide office space, a sterile services department (SSD) and an aseptic suite. Fatkin has been appointed by the developer to provide clinical planning and design for the aseptic suite within the first floor of the new build. The proposed Pharmacy Aseptic Services Facility facilitates the daily operation of a number of specialist manufacturing departments.

With the floorplate already set prior to appointment, a rapid delivery programme and a detailed brief of clinical spaces required, Fatkin created a layout which allows the Aseptic teams to streamline their production processes and adhere to the requirements of the Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Key to this project is the room loading process where we have been able to ‘walk’ the service users through the 3D model of each room to review the fixed and loose equipment, enabling the design tweaks which are critical in such a process driven space.
