Fatkin provided architectural and planning services for the redevelopment of a dilapidated cottage in an attractive rural plot.

The replacement dwelling provides a high-quality contemporary house with references to local vernacular including black weatherboarding and red clay roof tiles. The house is designed to similar performance levels of Passivhaus, incorporating inset solar PV panels and an MVHR system. This minimised energy bills for the occupants and has provided a comfortable living environment over the years since completion.

The house was designed in collaboration with the clients and their young children, and includes high level mezzanine play and study areas within the roof space to the end bedrooms, an open plan kitchen-dining area with concertina doors into the garden, and windows framing key views towards the Chilterns ridge.
