Comprehensive remodel of a 1930 semi-detached house, with rear extension, loft extension and retro-fitting of extensive carbon saving technologies.

The clients on this project wanted to expand and remodel the entire house, and were very keen from the start to incorporate carbon saving technologies wherever possible.  External wall insulation, air source heat pump, photovoltaic panels, MVHR system and additional levels of insulation in the new build elements to exceed building regulations were all incorporated into the design.

The new build elements are to be clad in zinc, with a green roof to the rear extension.  The form evolved from the need to keep the roof heights low to prevent overshadowing of the adjoining neighbour, but became a distinctive element of the design. Fatkin designed bespoke joinery throughout the house, which incorporated both spaces for the owners’ cats to play and plentiful storage solutions.
