Fatkin developed this competition entry for a new Woodland Trust visitor centre in Surrey, in collaboration with Ben Gough and Bloomworks.

The scheme proposes a gateway, transposing visitors from the arrival plaza into the Langley Vale Woodland beyond, readying for an onwards journey and transition into nature.

The threshold is planned as two halves; this combination permits a layering to the space whilst also providing for two user groups. To the left, the main space houses the café, gallery and information areas, with solid volumes for the multiuse space, kitchen and management office. Turning right leads to a more robust area for walkers, dog owners or muddy adventurers.
