Fatkin has been appointed by Portsmouth City Council to provide architectural and planning services for the development of a new Transport Hub on the edge of the city. Fatkin worked with the client and design teams to develop a scheme comprising 2650 parking spaces, park and ride facilities for staff and visitors, and active travel hub, securing outline consent at planning committee in February 2022.

Fatkin is now leading the design team refining the proposals and preparing the reserved matters application for submission in Autumn 2022. The site is in a prominent location adjacent to forthcoming extensive brownfield redevelopment and a coordinated approach has been necessary to maximise the potential of the land and the beneficial impact the development can have on the wider city.

Consideration has been given to how the Transport Hub accommodate a range of modes and promotes active travel, including buses, cycles and scooters. It also incorporates up to 840sqm of commercial space for ancillary uses which could include microfreight distribution, retail, office or café space. The Transport Hub will ultimately link into a wider network of active travel and public transport routes around the city.
