Watford General Hospital acquired an existing industrial building on a retail park close to the main hospital site in south-west Watford for conversion into shared flexible office space for several non-clinical administrative teams totalling around 110 people.

Fatkin was appointed by the Trust’s project management consultant to develop the design of the conversion from feasibility stage through to completion. Following a rapid testing process, Fatkin developed a suitable design for the new office including some Covid-appropriate flexible layouts, should the Trust need to implement these at completion.

The office development includes significant upgrades to the existing fabric, extending the first floor mezzanine to be a full floor, adding new sanitary and kitchen facilities, plus adding new windows and fire escape stairs. The layout incorporates a reception area, open-plan office on both floors, meeting rooms, private offices and a secure external cycle store.

Fatkin led the pre-app process with the LPA to minimise planning risk and tailored the application to ensure a straightforward determination.

Fatkin also prepared a full schedule of loose furniture and interior finishes including office equipment and partitions, drawing on our experience of NHS projects and workspace technical requirements.
