Fatkin was appointed to design a substantial new-build detached house on a greenfield, edge-of-town site in Launceston, Cornwall. The client’s brief was to make best use of the superb distant views towards the moors and to accommodate a modest car collection in a discreet semi-basement garage.

The design of the house is therefore spread across three storeys, built into the natural hillside to reduce the perceived bulk of the dwelling. The house utilises natural Cornish stone walling and timber cladding with slate pitched roofs and green flat roofs to help blend the house into the landscape.

The top floor houses the master suite, with an inset balcony to provide privacy from ground level and frame the views to the south whilst avoiding excessive solar gain.
