Fatkin were invited to prepare a concept design for a new Lion House at Dartmoor Zoo, Devon.

The existing accommodation dates back to the zoo’s inception and required significantly upgrading to meet modern standards and provide improved opportunities for public engagement and education.

The zoo has a steeply sloping, heavily wooded site on the edge of Dartmoor. Our proposals looked to make use of the topography to provide interesting views for visitors whilst protecting the wellbeing of the animals, and providing a safe and functional environment for staff.
