This new multi-storey car park and transport hub is currently under construction on the existing Railway North car park on Lytton Way, central Stevenage, and provides a substantial increase in capacity to offset the loss of parking within the town centre where regeneration works are taking place.

The building sits at the gateway of the town showing the two most prominent facades to the major transit routes with the intent of capturing the passer-by with a subtle and uniform surface onto which bolder graphics are applied. To the western elevation, an image will showcase the role Stevenage played in building the ExoMars rover and the town’s other scientific achievements. To the east, the car park will display the town’s motto “The heart of a town lies in its people”. Contrasting, textured cladding is applied on the short elevations, providing visual relief and acting as the sandwiched material between the billboards.

The proposed MSCP will deliver an increased number of spaces on this site, providing 622 car parking spaces, including 30 disabled parking bays. Furthermore, it also provides 27 dedicated motorcycle parking bays and secure cycle parking for up to 80 bicycles, including non-standard cycles e.g. cargo bikes or disability cycles.
